Does Sexual Education make sense in the actual context?...
Being socially modelled, the human sexuality and its moral rules have been created in a more global social transformation, in a change of mentalities and institutions, namely the conjugality and the family relationships field.
It is this specific learning or socialization that is carried out in an intentional way on this “area” of issues, that usually is designated – once there isn´t a better term, by sexual education.
Keeping in mind the associations of sexuality to other dimensions of the personal identity and interpersonal relationships and its social mediatisation, sexual education integrates other learning areas such as values and affections, or gender issues, the structure of the personality, or the competence of individuals to deal with intimacy.
The socialization of individuals in the sexuality area is a process in which intervene, assuming or not that intervention, all the actors that form our identity in all areas of our lives. I´m talking about the more informal contexts like family progenitors and pairs or friends. I´m referring to great social trainers like the mass media and I´m referring to the ways of formal education, firstly, in school.
